The Fine Arts Council was created in 1969 (Ch. 69-106, Laws), succeeding the Florida Arts Commission. The Council advised the Secretary of State on methods to encourage art appreciation and participation. The Council also promoted Florida's cultural heritage resources. The University of Florida Libraries Rare Book and Manuscripts Department started a program in the 1970s to make recorded poetry available to Florida schools and to preserve recordings of Florida poets.
